Qualifications

- Demonstrated ability to evaluate business backgrounds, financial information, public records, and other risk indicators and determine their significance within established underwriting standards and risk tolerances.
- Strong understanding of business financial reports, bank activity, and other information used to evaluate business operations and risk.
- Experience with public-record, legal research, fraud-prevention, and investigative databases such as Thomson Reuters CLEAR/Westlaw, LexisNexis, or comparable platforms is preferred.
- Ability to accurately assess large, complex, and sometimes ambiguous sets of information.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and prioritization capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Previous experience working with CRM or workflow-management software.
- Bachelors degree preferred but not required where equivalent relevant professional experience.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the Due Diligence and Contract Drafting teams, including day-to-day workflow management, training, coaching, performance management, staffing, and ongoing employee development.
- Conduct and oversee Due Diligence reviews of merchant applicants, including complex cases, escalations, and quality-control reviews as needed.
- Review public records, investigative databases, bank activity, financial information, and other available data to identify adverse information, potential fraud, and risks relevant to Underwriting.
- Serve as a subject matter expert in assessing business backgrounds, adverse information, fraud indicators, and other factors relevant to underwriting risk and risk tolerance.
- Partner closely with the Underwriting Team to evaluate complex or ambiguous findings and communicate the significance of identified risks within established underwriting standards.
- Oversee the Contract Drafting process to ensure contracts and related documents are prepared accurately and within established turnaround-time expectations.
- Establish, monitor, and continuously improve productivity, turnaround-time, quality, and accuracy expectations across both Due Diligence and Contract Drafting.
- Monitor team workload and capacity and make recommendations regarding staffing, assignments, training, or workflow adjustments as needed.
- Conduct and oversee quality-control reviews to identify recurring errors, training opportunities, and process gaps.
- Define and maintain Due Diligence review criteria, escalation standards, quality expectations, and procedures in coordination with Underwriting and Operations.
- Continuously evaluate and improve workflows to increase the efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of the Due Diligence and Contract Drafting teams.
- Maintain clear and current policies, procedures, training materials, and departmental, documentation.
- Provide relevant Due Diligence findings and supporting information to Final Review and other teams as necessary.
- Evaluate existing and new data sources, investigative tools, and technology solutions that may improve the accuracy, efficiency, or effectiveness of Due Diligence and Contract Drafting processes.
- Onboard and train new team members as necessary.
- Monitor individual and team performance and provide clear feedback, coaching, and accountability against established expectations.
- Participate in team and cross-functional meetings.
- Lead and participate in special projects involving Due Diligence, Contract Drafting, fraud prevention, workflow improvements, system enhancements, and risk-verification tools.
